Day 89 of 365 new ways to a new you. Congratulations, you have made it this far. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Are you ready for tomorrow? This is part of a series that is going to span 365 days. Some things will be subtle other activities will be more involved. At the end of the 365 days even if you do only 20 of these things you will be a new person, for better or for worse.

If one had only so many breaths to take a lifetime we would all be much more conscious of our breathing. We would be able to recognize when we weren’t taking in full breaths and when we were hyperventilating.

Day 89: Breathe in and breathe out
Focus on your breath today. Pay close attention to your inhalation and exhalation. Do your lungs fill with air and not your diaphragm? Does you diaphragm fill mostly with air? How long or short are your breaths?

After carefully observing how you breathe try to make a conscious effort to have a full cyclical breath. Breathe in through your nose fill your lungs and diaphragm and exhale slowly. Do this as often as you can all day long. There will be times when you forget to observe your breathing. Just do your best and don’t chastise yourself when you forget.
