Day 12 of 365 new ways to a new you. Congratulations, you have made it this far. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Are you ready for tomorrow? This is part of a series that is going to span 365 days. Some things will be subtle other activities will be more involved. At the end of the 365 days even if you do only 20 of these things you will be a new person, for better or for worse.

Before I begin with day twelve, I must defer you to our Terms and Conditions .

When we are children we inherit many of behaviors and opinions from the adults around us. These behaviors can range anywhere from a racist attitude, to the extreme disdain of asparagus. Whatever the dislike or negative trait one inherited, it has effected who you are today.

Day 12: Learn to like something you dislike
A distaste for a food is an easy thing to overcome. A malice towards another person is a little more difficult. Here are two possible routes for learning to like something you dislike.

If the thing you dislike is a matter of taste, appearance or other similar reproach; then first one must take the opposite approach to it. Most of our dislikes, especially towards food can be overcome with reverse psychology. Start by telling yourself you actually enjoy whatever it is you dislike. Psych yourself up, get excited to actually be able to eat asparagus again. You may not enjoy the food the first time but if you do this enough eventually you will enjoy it.

However if the thing you dislike is a person; this is considerably more challenging to overcome. Especially if this person has wronged you in some way. The best way to start to liking someone you dislike is to forgive them for their transgressions against you. Only when you forgive someone can you start to stop hating them. Now you must only look at the positive things about them and ignore the negative. Be their friend do something nice for them. The phrase kill them with kindness is around for a reason. Be warned that these may not work for all people; but if it is merely a coworker that has wronged you it will work.
