“History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life, and brings us tidings of antiquity.” ~Marcus Tullius Cicero
Day 125: Research local history
Go to your local library, or if you have one a historical society. Get a general overview of your local history. When was the town settled? What events of significance took place there? Write down as much as you can about the local history. Then pick one topic to do further in depth study on.
When we know the past we can better plan for the future. Sometimes we may not be ready to effect change, but it helps to know the course of events that went in to get where you are today. Learning local history helps to give one a sense of belonging.
