The idea is something out of science fiction. The action is both atrocious and miraculous. In 1940 surgeons Sergei Brukhonenko and S. The blood has been chemically treated to keep from clotting. Utilizing an arterial pump the blood is transfered into a reservoir with a steady flow of oxygenated blood. The head lives on for hours and reacts to external stimuli. When given honey the dog head would happily lick it up, and treats were given that passed through the esophageal lining.
